Elephant killed after being hit by train in Assam

The tragic incident occurred in Jorhat district, Assam, near Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary on the night of January 7, 2024.

An elephant lost its life in the collision after being struck by the down Vivek Express as a herd of wild elephants was passing through the area.

The unfortunate collision resulted in the elephant being trapped under the engine of the train, causing a fatality. Additionally, the train's engine suffered technical issues due to the impact.

Following the incident, authorities swiftly responded, removing the carcass from the tracks. The train, after resolving technical problems, resumed its journey the next morning.

Forest officials have reached the site to conduct a post-mortem examination on the elephant's carcass, shedding light on the cause of death and potential conservation measures.
